THIS WEEK IN:
MATH~ 3rd- Students worked on different strategies for solving multiplication problems, they focused specifically on the use of arrays to aid in understanding the distributive property.
4th- The class reviewed different addition strategies focusing on patterns and mental models.
READING- 3rd/4th/5th/6th grade differentiated groups continued. Students began to dive into small projects, writing assignments and other group work around their group book. Our writing curriculum has been closely tied to what we are working on in reading.
WRITING~ Students continued to focus on writing about reading. They looked closely at characters analyzing traits, thoughts and emotions of different characters in short stories from the book Jack on the Tracks.
SCIENCE~ This week students did not work on Science due to celebration as well as the desire to catch up on Social Studies.
HISTORY~ Students studied early explorers of North and South America. They researched and discussed reasons for exploration as well as how explorers interacted with Native Americans.
SPELLING/WORD STUDY~ Students did not have spelling this week.
NEXT WEEK IN:
MATH~3rd- Next week students will continue working with arrays and understanding mental models for solving multiplication problems.
4th- Students will focus on the connection between multiplication and addition. Students will use the addition strategies taught this week to expand and strengthen their multiplicative reasoning.
READING~ Students will continue to work on analyzing character’s traits, thoughts and feelings.
WRITING~ We will continue to work on writing about reading. Students will begin constructing thesis statements about their reading group books.
SCIENCE~ We will go back into our solar system texts and practice and review test taking skills. The class will begin to look deeper into the characteristics of stars.
HISTORY~ Next week students will begin to work on early settlements in the Americas. They will be focusing on community and specialization.
